Diesel & Gasoline Engines use in Yemen

Apart from Tractors. Diesel, and Gasoline Engines are used in Yemen drive water pumps. Mostly Vertical Turbine Pumps, and Centrifugal Self Priming Pumps, for irrigation purpose. A secondary application is to drive Grinding Mills,  Alternators, and Construction Equipment.

Diesel Engines

Single Cylinder, Horizontal, Water Cooled, Low Speed Diesel Engines
Bare Engines:
Single Cylinder, Horizontal, Water Cooled (Hopper Type), Diesel Engines with Flat Pulleys, Heavy Duty, Low Speed, Double Flywheels Engines, between 15 and 35 H.P. are most popular due to their durability, long life, and less maintenance.
Those engines are imported only in Bare Form, They come with flat pulleys to be used for Flat Transmission Belting.
Popular brands are Yanmar, Kubota, and Mitsubishi from Japan. There is a big population of those engines still running in the field. In the past few decades, such engines were also imported from Europe with brand names of Deutz, Andoria, Sendling, Blackstone, and Robson. But they were stopped due to makers have discontinued production. In the past few years the Japanese have also decided to discontinue production. There is still a potential demand for such engines, but only few choices are available.

Single Cylinder Water Cooled, High Speed Diesel Engines
Bare Engines:
Due to that reason, and because of affordability. Users have to diverse to Horizontal, Single Cylinder, Water cooled (Hopper Type), High Speed Engines as an alternate, for their need of  horse power between 8 and 35 H.P. to be used for the same applications. Although those engines are not durable as their big brothers of low speed. Those engines are imported in bare form, and they come with flat pulleys. Popular Brands are Yanmar, Kubota, Mitsubishi, and Peter Lister.
Water Pump Sets:
Same Engines (Hand Start) between 5 and 9 H.P. are imported Direct Coupled to Water Pumps, either Centrifugal, or Self Priming. Sets should be built on steel base. Two types are required. Stationery on the steel base, and Portable using Rubber Wheels (Coasters), and handle in order to move the set from one place to another. The Engines of those sets are cooled automatically from the pumps, as the pumps sends the cold water through a hose to the Cylinder head as an intake. The outlet side for warm water is the hopper cover. This way the engine is kept cool during the operation. The outlet water is not wasted, because it is used for irrigation also.
Due to Yemen is a mountainous country, and water is pumped from water wells. High Total Head is required, although less water. The required total head is between 28 and 32 Meters.
Popular Models are:-
2" X 2" With Engines ranging between 5 and 7 H.P.
3" X 3" With Engines ranging between 7 and 9 H.P.
Pumps should be Direct Coupled to the Engines, due to belt driven ones are not preferable.
Pumps made of Cast Iron are more preferable. Buyers in future may accept pumps made of Pressurized Aluminum Die Casting.
Generating Sets:
Same Engines, But Radiator Cooled or Condenser Cooled, are imported in complete sets as A.C. Generator Units with outputs between 2 K.W. and 15 K.W. The sets are required to be be built on strong steel base, with rubber vibration insulator (rubber shock preventers). Sets to be fully pipe framed. They come in to two versions, one is stationery without wheels, and the second one portable using rubber wheels (Coasters). Control Panel to be installed with each set including No-Fuse Breaker (Automatic Circuit Breaker), Voltmeter, Outlet Consents or Sockets, and Ammeter is an advantage. Voltage should be stable.
Power is transmitted from the Engines to the Alternators through "V" Belts. Those belts should be covered with a cover plate for safety reasons.
The A.C. Current requirements are:-
220V.,  50Hz.  For Single Phase units
380V.,  50Hz.  For Three Phase units
Units between 2KW and 5KW are required in single phase, and units between 5KW and 15KW are required in three phase.
Hand Start Engines are preferred for the smaller capacities, and for the bigger ones both Hand only, and Hand/Electric are required.
Auxiliary D.C. Output is an advantage.
Welders:
Same Engines, Radiator Cooled or Condenser Cooled, are imported in complete sets as Welders Generator Units with outputs between 120 Amps. and 400 Amps. With Automatic Speed Control Unit.
The sets are required to be built on strong steel base, with rubber vibration insulator (rubber shock preventers). Sets to be fully pipe framed. They  should be   portable using rubber wheels (Coasters). Power is transmitted from the Engines to the Alternators through "V" Belts. Those belts should be covered with a cover plate for safety reasons. Welding Accessories (Such Cables, Electrode Holders, Hammer ... etc.)   come as Standard with those Welders.
Auxiliary A.C. Output is an advantage.
Other Applications:
Mostly Mounted on Construction Equipment such as Concrete Mixers, Cement Block Making Machines, Winches (Hoists), Dumpers ... Etc.

Single Cylinder Air Cooled, Diesel Engines
Those Engines are not imported as Bare Engines. They are only imported as complete sets of Water Pumps, and Generators. Popular Brands are Yanmar, and Robin. Some other brands are available in small quantities such as Peter Lister, Lombardini, Hatz, Briggs & Straton, Kohler ... etc.
Water Pump Sets:
Direct Coupled 2"X2", and 3"X3" Pump Sets are required with high total head between 28 and 32 meters. Pumps should be Self Priming. Pump body to be made of pressurized aluminum die casting. Engines should be equipped with Recoil Starter, or Hand Crank Starter. In such pump sets, there is no need for electric start. Fully pipe framed versions are only required. Sets to be supplied with  accessories such as Two hose coupling (threaded with British standard pipe thread), three hose clamps (clips), strainer (screen filter), and tools.
Generating Sets:
Single Phase 220V. 50Hz. A.C. Generating units between 1 KW and 5 KW are required. Direct coupled, fully pipe framed, with control panel, rubber vibrator insulator, stable voltage output, with recoil starter or hand crank start (Electric Start in few quantities for bigger units might be required). Required accessories are A.C. plugs, and tool set.
Silent Version in small quantities for bigger units are required.
Other Applications:
Mostly Mounted on Construction Equipment such as Concrete Mixers, Cement Block Making Machines, Winches (Hoists), Dumpers, Concrete Vibrators, Compacters, Rollers ... etc. Besides, they are also mounted on Air Compressors, and small output Welders.

Multiple Cylinders Water Cooled Diesel Engines
Power Units:
Multiple Cylinders Vertical, Water Cooled (Radiator Type), Diesel Engines between 70 and 150 H.P. are imported as Power Units, they are used to drive Geared Head Deep Well Vertical Water Pumps. Those Power units are imported complete including Diesel Engines, Base, Clutch, Cardan Shaft, and Control Panel. Four, and six cylinders are required. But four cylinders are more preferable.
Generator Sets:
Generator Sets driven by Multi Cylinders Engines are imported in various capacities according to the end users need. Those are specially imported if there is an order ready on hand only, and could not be stocked.

Other types of Water Cooled Diesel Engines (From India)
Bare Engines:
In only particular areas of Yemen, there is a demand for Vertical, Water Cooled, Low Speed, Single Cylinder, Diesel Engines of 8 H.P. This model was originally made by Lister of England. It is now imported from India as there are a lot of makers producing the same model in different qualities, and hundreds of name brands (if not thousands). The price is low, and affordable. The biggest demand is concentrated in Hadramaut Governerate. Those engines are used to drive water pumps, and cement block making machines.
Water Pump Sets:
Direct Coupled 2"X2", and 3"X3" Centrifugal Water Pumps. Driven by Vertical, Water Cooled, High Speed, Single Cylinder, Diesel Engines of 5 H.P., and 7.5 (or 8H.P.) Those Engines are of
Kirloskar Type, which was modified from English Peter. There are a lot of makers in India for this Machine.

* All Sets Should be equipped with Tools, Accessories, and Spare Parts.

Gasoline (Petrol) Engines

Single Cylinder Air Cooled, Gasoline Engines
Bare Engines:
Very few Engines are imported in Bare form. Those are to be installed on air compressors, or any other application, mostly when this application is originally powered by electric motor, and the user intends to install in a remote area with no electricity, user simply changes a gasoline engine or a diesel engine instead of the electric motor.
Water Pump Sets:
Direct Coupled 2"X2", and 3"X3" Pump Sets are required with high total head between 28 and 32 meters. Pumps should be Self Priming. Pump body to be made of pressurized aluminum die casting. Brands which are running in the field are: Robin, Honda, Yamaha, Kubota, Koshin, Yanmar, Kato, Terada, Daishin, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Briggs & Startton, Bernard, Kohler ...etc.
Generating Sets:
Single Phase 220V. 50Hz. A.C. Generating units between 1 KW and 5 KW are required. Direct coupled, fully pipe framed, with control panel, rubber vibrator insulator, stable voltage output, with recoil. Required accessories are A.C. plugs, and tool set.
Rock Drill:
Two stroke engines mounted on Rock Drills. Popular brand is Pionjar from Sweden. There is a copy of this machine available in the market, and imported from china.
Other Applications:
Mostly Mounted on Construction Equipment such as Concrete Mixers, Winches (Hoists), Dumpers, Concrete Vibrators, Compacters, Rollers, Rock Drills ... etc. Besides, they are also mounted on Air Compressors, battery chargers, and welding machines.
